When attempting to connect to MCC Island, you may encounter a message stating, “You cannot connect to MCC Island using a VPN. Please try disabling your VPN and reconnecting.”
Why can’t I connect using a VPN?
We block access to MCC Island via VPNs by default, in order to keep both MCC Island and players safe from malicious accounts.
We’ve also found that using a VPN is unlikely to improve your connection to MCC Island. When using a VPN, your connection will pass through your VPN Provider’s servers before it reaches us, which could cause your connection to take a different route and be slower than usual.
Instead, we implement a range of tweaks and improvements designed to give you the best connection we can to MCC Island.
But I need a VPN to play!
Under exceptional circumstances, such as where you can’t connect to MCC Island at all or where your connection is exceptionally poor, we may make exceptions and allow a VPN to be used.
If this is the case for you, please get in touch with us.
To verify your request and see if whitelisting your VPN will improve your connection, our Support Team may ask for additional information, such as your Internet Service Provider and a Traceroute to the MCCI server.
If you’re not sure how to perform a traceroute, you can find out here
But I’m not using a VPN!
Sometimes this message can appear even when you aren’t using a VPN. If this happens, you should check to ensure you aren’t unintentionally using a VPN or similar software. These can include:
- Traditional VPNs, like OpenVPN or Surfshark
- Connection tunnelling software such as Cloudflare WARP or Tailscale
- Acceleration software such as WTFast or UU Accelerator
If you’re confident you aren’t using any of the above software, and are still receiving this error message, contact our Support Team, and we’ll investigate the cause.
