The quality of your internet connection can affect your experience on MCC Island. The better your connection to the server, the smoother your experience will be, whereas a poor connection can lead to lag, which can cause some elements of MCC Island to act strangely.
If you’re experiencing a poor connection to MCC Island, we’ve put together some tips on how to check and improve your connection quality.
Checking your Connection
On MCC Island, you can use the /ping
command to conduct a short test and get an estimate of your current ping at the time of the test. Ping tells you how quickly you receive information, giving you a rough idea of the quality of your connection to the server.
The estimate provided by /ping
can be inaccurate shortly after joining the server, changing lobby/minigame, or changing instances. We’d recommend running the /ping
command multiple times across a session to better understand your connection quality. The estimate may also be different than ones provided by other servers as we use a custom system to detect it.
As a general rule, the lower the ping, the better the connection to the server. On MCC Island, we expect most players to have a ping of around 100-150ms. However, the further a player is geographically from a server base, the higher the ping is. Our servers are based on the US East Coast, so players from areas like Asia and Oceania should expect a ping of 200-350ms. While we don’t have any regional IPs, we do have regional proxies, and connecting to our main IP (play.mccisland.net) will automatically pick the closest one to you, ensuring you have the best possible connection for your region.
While the /ping
command is useful as an early detection tool, it won’t detect any issues that are happening beyond this test, such as issues with your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Please bear this in mind when reviewing your connection to the MCC Island Server.
Optimising your Connection
If you are having issues with poor connection to the server, there are some general steps you can take to try and improve your connection and reduce lag:
- Try using a wired connection to connect to the internet, such as an ethernet cable, rather than a wireless connection like Wi-Fi.
- If you need to use a wireless connection, try to use your device as close to the router as possible. Obstructions such as walls, doors and furniture can get in the way, slowing down your connection.
- Try not to download large files or watch videos at higher quality while playing on MCC Island - doing so can slow down your connection.
- Turn off any VPN’s. Whilst some VPNs may promise better connections, most of the time, your connection will be the same or might be even worse while using a VPN. Additionally, if you use a VPN, you don’t benefit from our custom routing, which may provide a better connection to the server than the VPN can.
If the above steps don’t help, you should check with your Internet Service Provider to see if they’re experiencing any issues, as this will affect your connection to MCC Island.
We provide some alternative addresses you can use to connect to MCC Island. These use slightly different network configurations, which may offer a better experience in some cases.
