Minecraft is constantly updating and evolving, and MCC Island looks to take advantage of the latest and greatest the game has to offer. This means you may be asked to update your game when new versions are released.
ℹ We currently recommend using Minecraft 1.20.1 to play on MCC Island. ℹ
To help you out, we’ve put together some information on how to update the version of Minecraft you’re using for various launchers you might be using.
🔧 You should always back up your worlds before updating, so you have a safe copy of them in case anything goes wrong. 🔧
Minecraft Launcher
The Minecraft Launcher’s default profile automatically uses the latest version of the game - if you’re using that profile, you shouldn’t need to update, as it’ll happen automatically!
If you’ve created a custom profile or need to use an older version of the game, you may need to change the version of the game you use manually.
To do this, select the Installations tab within your Minecraft Launcher. Highlight the installation you wish to update, then click the three-dot icon (…) next to it.
Then, select the “Version” dropdown, and choose the version you’d like to use.
💡 Choosing “latest release” within the dropdown will automatically keep your game up to date, so you won’t have to do this again in the future!
Finally, save your changes, and launch the game!
MultiMC / Prism Launcher
Select the Instance you’d like to edit, then choose “Edit Instance”. Select Minecraft in the list that appears, and then click the “Change version” button on the right-hand side. A list of available versions will appear - choose the version you’d like to update to, then click OK to confirm.

Mod Loaders
If you’re using a mod loader, updating your game can be a little more complicated. We’ve put together tips for some popular loaders below.
🔧 You may also need to update the mods you use separately - Always check with the mod’s author on the best way to keep your mods updated.
Forge
If you’re using the Forge Modloader, you’ll need to download an installer for the version you want to use and run it each time you update.
Fabric
If you’re using the Fabric Loader, you’ll need to download the latest installer, run it, and select the version you want to use each time you update. Fabric provides some more advice here, alongside information on how to keep using the same profile rather than creating a new one each time.
Clients
If you’re using a premade “client” to access MCC Island, it usually includes an option to choose which version of Minecraft to launch. We’ve included tips for some common clients below - if the one you use isn’t included, you should check with the creator of that client for advice.
Lunar
In Lunar Client, you can change what version of the game you use by opening your settings within the launcher and selecting the version you’d like to use.
Badlion
On the Badlion Client, you can select which version you’d like to launch from a dropdown next to the LAUNCH button.
